Values

Work Experience

Lerato Schalkwyk is an experienced underground mining professional with a strong technical foundation in conventional and mechanised hard-rock mining operations, mine design, and safety integration. Throughout her career, she has led the development of safe and efficient underground mining systems by aligning mine layouts with operational risk controls – enhancing both safety outcomes and productivity.

As the custodian of long- and medium-term mine planning for multiple business units, Lerato has delivered value-optimised designs that balance technical excellence with practical execution. She consistently identifies opportunities to enhance performance through design innovation and close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including geology, ventilation, and rock engineering.
She began her mining career at Sibanye Stillwater, gaining extensive experience in underground production and gold processing operations, where she progressed through production leadership roles and built a strong operational foundation. She later joined Anglo American, where she advanced through a series of increasingly senior technical services and mine planning positions – culminating in her role as Senior Mine Planner, responsible for long- and medium-term planning, value-driven design, and multi-disciplinary collaboration across business units.

In leadership roles, Lerato has built and nurtured high-performing, purpose-driven teams while fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement. Her early operational grounding in narrow-reef gold mining instilled a deep respect for frontline safety and efficiency – principles that continue to guide her approach to technical excellence and responsible mining. This combination of strategic planning expertise, operational leadership, and safety-driven design positions her to add immediate value to mining operations focused on safe, sustainable, and high-margin production.

Work Experience:

Katlego Mpeqa is a Mining Engineer with extensive experience across both opencast and underground coal operations. Her career began at BHP Billiton/South32 as a Mining Graduate, where she gained hands-on operational exposure across diverse mining environments. This foundation nurtured her ability to bridge short- and medium-term execution with tactical decision-making and developed the grit, collaborative leadership, and discipline that continue to guide her work. Over time, she progressed through production and technical services roles to become a Mining Activity Engineer at Seriti Resources.

She has led mine planning and production optimisation initiatives in both owner-mined and contractor-managed operations, through strategic leadership, engineering rigour, and analytical problem-solving. By closely collaborating with multidisciplinary teams – including production, geology, survey, and mineral processing – she has built a proven track record of delivering technically sound and feasible mine designs that drive performance improvement, high equipment utilisation, and plan compliance. During her tenure in a high-demand flagship operation, she assumed expanded leadership responsibilities within technical services, operating at a planning leadership level to drive cross-functional integration and operational synergy. As a Reserve Competent Person, she played a key role in aligning executive leadership and operational stakeholders to achieve unified, sustainable, and performance-driven business objectives through life-of-mine modelling, budget sign-off, reserve reconciliation, and SAMREC reporting.

Recognised for her inclusive leadership, versatility, and analytical thinking, Katlego has worked effectively with people across all levels – from frontline teams to senior executives – ensuring cohesive execution across all phases of the mining lifecycle, from resource exploration through to strategic closure. She holds formal training in risk management and supervisory leadership and remains deeply committed to advancing safe, efficient, and sustainable mining operations that deliver enduring economic, social, and environmental value.
